Illegal Buildings To Be Demolish In Uyo Metropolis

The Management of Uyo Capital City Development Authority UCCDA had said plans have been concluded to pull down illegal structures within Uyo metropolis in the next seven days.

The Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Prince Enobong Uwah, who revealed this on Tuesday said the owners of such illegal structures were earlier given one-week ultimatum to remove such structures or risk demolition.

He said the ultimatum became necessary due to the unyielding attitude of developers of illegal structures despite numerous stop work and demolition notices, stressing that such actions override public interest.

Prince Uwah, accompanied by the Secretary and Head of Administration, Mr. Edwin James; Head of Town Planning, TPL (MRS) Cornelia Imo Udo; and others while inspecting the Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard and the Victor Attah International Airport Road, frowned at the indiscriminate citing of illegal developments including shanties on Government right of way, stressing that such structures distort the Master Plan of Uyo Capital City.

He further reiterated the resolve of the government to stop at nothing to ensuring that Uyo metropolis is given a status that befits it and sanity brought to it, urging developers to always obtain building approvals from the Uyo Capital City Development Authority before erecting any structure within the Capital City.

The UCCDA Boss maintained that physical planning and development control including approvals to erect masts is the statutory function of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority that cannot be compromised, as the Authority will take steps to demolish duly marked illegal developments within the Capital City at the expiration of the seven-day notice to commence from 23rd to 29th April, 2019.
